| SPORTELAsia 2006 was held on (March 20-22, 2006) at the Pudong Shangri-La Hotel in Shanghai, China and brought together a total of 658 participants, representing 324 companies from 43 countries worldwide. Following on the heels of last year's inaugural SPORTELAsia in Hong Kong, the Shanghai market featured a 60% increase in the number of stands and an increase of almost 25% in terms of participants.
SPORTELAsia continued an initiative launched on SPORTELMonaco and focused on new technologies, in particular the reception of TV sports programs, highlights, sports news and updates on mobile receivers. Telecom operators, manufacturers and software providers were invited to present their new systems which make it possible to receive TV sequences on mobile handsets (UMTS, TNT, DVB-H, DMB, WiFi, WiMax).
Shanghai Media Group joined efforts with SPORTEL towards developing the global sports television industry and became the official partner of SPORTELAsia 2006. The market offered not only a comprehensive platform for exchanges between Chinese and international sports television, but also a good opportunity for China to display its Sports Television to the world.
SPORTEL markets are the only events to feature such a diversity of top-level sports executives representing broadcasters, cable and satellite services, hardware/software and facilities providers, program distributors, event organizers, satellite services, producers, sports marketing agents, sponsorship and investment groups, sports federations, new media and international press from around the world. These markets are organized in Monaco, the US and Asia to bring together executives involved in sport television programming.
SPORTELAmerica 2007 will return to the scene of its greatest success in the U.S., the Wyndham Miami Beach Resort, ( March 12-14, 2007 ). SPORTELAsia 2008 will return to Asia in the spring of 2008, just ahead of the Olympic games in Beijing in August. The return to Asia March of the Olympic year of 2008 is a "natural" and will help SPORTEL and its participants take advantage of the build-up to the Beijing Games later that summer combined with the business opportunities available in this part of the world.
SPORTEL's next event is SPORTELMonaco 2006, which will take place ( October 16-19, 2006 ) at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Last year, SPORTELMonaco 2005 included a total of 1,884 participants, representing a record 868 companies from 65 countries worldwide, making it one of the largest SPORTEL events ever.
