What are the coming trends in broadcast of telenovelas/series in Western Europe ?
I believe we will see more diverse telenovelas - every new success will trigger a new interpretation of the telenovela genre, and although some may use the same proven formula again, others will expand the boundaries. The arrival of German-made telenovelas also marks the trend that buyers are willing to consider new options and choices in the international market.
Do you have titles on air in Western European TV Channels? Please give us ratings if possible.
Our telenovela "Storm of Love" is doing wonderfully in its home country Germany, and it started airing this August on Austria 's ORF. In Italy, "Storm of Love" is airing on Canale 5 under the title "Tempesta D'Amore" with ratings of up to 25%. And by now, "Storm of Love" is also airing in all three Baltic countries, as well as in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In Latvia where it is on air since March, the market shares have peeks by 31.2%, "Storm of Love" is a huge success there. And we are looking forward to closing more deals in additional territories soon.
What Western European markets are important for your business?
Bavaria Media TV has traditionally been a trusted and well-established partner for channels all over Western Europe -not only for acquisitions, but also as a co-production partner. In the major territories both France and Italy play a very important role for us - our TV-movies and our series is a mainstay in the schedules of many Western European channels.
Do you have products in production /co-production in Western Europe ?
We are very active in the European co-production market. Programmes like "1200°" or "A Pirate's Heart" were all created via international co-productions. We have a number of projects that are currently taking shape. We will go public with these projects in due time.
What programs will you bring to MIPCOM 2006?
This MIPCOM, Bavaria Media TV is bringing 250 hours of new programming to Cannes - and this means we have new programs for every need. We have a few surprises up our sleeves and we expect this market to be a very interesting one for our clients... and us. Here are a few pointers: "Aspe", a crime series from Belgium which is already a hit show in its home territory. "Zoo Doctor" - one-hour family drama series about a young woman working as a vet at the Leipzig Zoo. "Sotto Casa" - a brand new soap opera from Italy, based on the successful German series "Marinhof Friends - The Mollywoop Files" is a smart new animation series for pre-school kids while series "All Aboard" is actually all about friendly pirate fun.
