What are the advantages / difficulties of selling Telenovelas to Western European countries?
The main challenge is to convince TV programmers in the region to try and root for a new genre. Forms many years, Telenovelas have been very successful in Latin America, South East Asia, Spain, Portugal, China and Russia. And little by little, we are trying very hard to spread this global trend into Western Europe. Countries like France, Germany and Italy have become innovators in their region by leading the adoption of telenovelas in their programming offering.
Do you sell ready-made Telenovelas or fiction formats to Western Europe ?
Both. Televisa is very proud to own the largest Telenovelas catalogue in the world. And for more that 3 decades, our productions have been internationally known for its extraordinary stories and high production quality. In addition, and fueled by the growing trend in Western Europe to produce local adaptations of Telenovelas and realities, we are also distributing original Telenovelas and reality formats, and promoting co-productions.
Can you give us examples of successful Telenovelas that are on the air in Western European countries?
Our original Telenovelas are performing very well in the region. Productions such as "La Madrastra " ("The Stepmother") and "Rebelde" ("Rebel") in Spain, and "Rubi" in France have had a very good performance, and we are confident that our Telenovelas releases will continue to follow the same great performance and also become success stories.
Do you have projects in co-production in Western European countries?
Yes. We are very excited about the projects we are promoting in territories like Spain, Germany and France.
Do you participate in Reed Midem's Telenovelas Screenings? What do you expect from this event?
Yes. This is a great event that focuses in promoting the Telenovelas genre among those countries where Telenovelas are relatively new. We would like TV programmers in all regions to discover the wonders of Telenovelas, because this is a very noble genre that captivates audiences and generates high levels of viewer loyalty. The boom of this genre is in its best moment and Televisa is proud to have pioneered this trend internationally. |
