What are your acquisition strategies? What programs are you looking for?
TPI typically looks for non-fiction television programming and documentary films with an international
appeal...programs that are very visual, contain subjects that are of interest to audiences all over the world...such as current affairs, or cooking, travel, nature and environmental issues. We like programs that
do not have too many sound bites or on camera hosts and series programming is very popular with buyers as well.
What programs will be in demand at MIPCOM 2006?
Some of our more popular titles acquired in 2005/06 are: "The Disappearing Tuvalu" about how the global warming/potential melting of the polar ice caps is a global topic of interest at the moment...and this documentary film tells how Tuvalu could be the first entire nation to "disappear." Also, the documentary "Jihad: Struggling with Islam" has captured the interest of many buyers. This film is a moving personal
story of one Muslim woman's struggle to understand her faith. Another popular series is "The Peddlers of Asia", a culinary adventure on the backstreets of Asian cities from Bangkok to Shanghai. For MIPCOM, TPI will showcase programs focusing on world issues (the Middle East conflict and the religion of Islam), global warming, and we will present our own series "These Amazing People..." a series that looks at people from around the world who hold fascinating jobs or are just inspirational. |
