TPI Brings "Emeralds" and more to MIP.
The Emerald Empire
TPI is well-known for offering a wide variety of international-oriented programs ranging from award-winning documentaries to series programming including lifestyle, travel and adventure.
At MIP-TV, TPI will launch the new special "The Emerald Empire: Land of Hope and Shadows." Shot on location in remote regions of the Andes Mountains and in the subterranean emerald mines of Colombia, this special takes viewers to a ruggedly beautiful area that produces the finest emeralds in the world. Worshipped by Indian priests, coveted by Spanish conquistadors, and celebrated by connoisseurs as the most beautiful emeralds on earth, the lustrous, green gems of the Emerald Empire have maintained an almost supernatural hold on the human imagination for over 500 years.
In contrast to the elegance and beauty of emeralds, the region is also the scene of a long-running struggle for power and influence between voracious mine owners, desperately poor laborers, overmatched government officials and ruthless narcotraffickers.
"The Emerald Empire" follows this diverse mix of characters as they battle for control over a region of Colombia where emeralds can bring great prosperity or a curse of false dreams of easy money. The program includes an up-close look at the controversial and normally elusive Victor Carranza, one of the largest landowners in South America. With a very colorful past, Carranza is widely considered to be Colombia's "Emerald King."
TPI also brings to MIP-TV the new series "These Amazing People." This series travels the world to find some of the most outrageous, funny, dangerous and inspirational people who are doing "amazing" things. Each episode features amazing stories and clips ranging from the "French Spiderman" who climbs the world's tallest buildings to a man in Mexico who works on the edge of an active volcano. With no host in the series, buyers do have the option to insert a local host to create a more localized version.
Another series offered by TPI is "Roar of the Wild" which features Australian adventurer Lin Sutherland as she takes viewers on wildlife travel adventures around the world.
TPI also brings to MIP-TV additional new programs including "Trouble in Paradise" which examines the impact of global warming and rising ocean levels. The special "Swept Away" features two adventurers as they make a daring crossing of the Bering Straight from Alaska to Siberia. TPI also brings to Cannes the special "Touched By Water." Shot in 14 countries, the program profiles the history of man's relationship with water, from ancient rituals to modern pleasures.
