GAMELAB 0.1

The TV series for the Video Game Generation

beActive, the creator of the hit multiplatform series "Sofia's Diary, in association with The Nightingale Company, one of Canada's leading multi media content providers, is developing a hip, new television series about Love, Friendship, Growing Up and the high-stakes Video Game business.

Terry (19), Linda (18) and Josh (18) are addicted gamers. When their web-based Video game "TeamQuest" tops 1 million downloads, they figure it's time to launch it and make it a big hit on the market. However, a major videogame publisher tries to rip them off and steal their dream in any way possible. Our teen heroes will have to defend themselves and TeamQuest to conquer the cut-throat, competitive world of video games.

In line with beActive's pioneering creativity, GAMELAB 0.1 allies the strengths of two "rivals", TV and video games. With video games winning out and becoming more immersive, this new interactive format dramatizes the "behind-the-scenes" of creating a video game. Additionally, the TeamQuest game created by the characters will be a real video game, available for download prior to the TV show. Nuno Bernardo of beActive says "In the same way we proceeded with Sofia's Diary, the goal is to create a strong cross-media community around the GAMELAB show. The idea is to first create the web buzz around the game and the characters to build up a community that will follow Terry's, Linda's and Josh's quest. After the show is launched on TV, additional content will be available on the web site, mobiles, PSP, etc. It's about mixing fiction with reality, involving the audience in the plot and making them take part in each character's life 24/7".

The TV series is directed to the huge demographic target that plays videogames. However, mixing the "intrigue" of 24, the "smarts" of CSI and the emotional engagement of O.C, GAMELAB 0.1 has potential to engage gamers and non gamers alike. At this year's MIPTV, beActive and The Nightingale Company unveil further developments on this interactive and innovative TV show.
