Stalin's Wife
Created in 1992, Moscow based Mirabel Film Studio is forever thankful to Mira Todorovskaya. She began to produce when there wasn't anyone in this profession in Russia. She found a good script; involved Swedish partners, and Piotr Todorovsky's film "Intergirl" became a huge success during the times of Perestroyka. Today, the studio is involved in the production of features, TV movies and mini-series. Many of these productions have received many international and national awards, and are aimed at a wide audience.
"Stalin's Wife" (Mini-Series, 4 x 44') is the four-part drama series, which may also be released as a feature film. The TV Series turned Stalin's marriage in a real soap opera that was successfully broadcast on TV Channel " Russia " in 2007. Josef Stalin is depicted as a passionate lover who missed the October Revolution, because he was in bed with his teenage lover, Nadezhda Alliluyeva. This is a story of their marriage with a tragic end.
"The Mystery of the Woman and the Beast" (Mini-Series, 5x44') tells the story in the year of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great film director, Sergey Eisenstein. Many film studios around the world are dedicating film tributes as an analysis of his work. It's a view of the Master's art and fate. The film's creation came about, because of an amazing find. Artist Lydia Naumova, who worked with Eisenstein on the film "Ivan the Terrible" in the 1940's, kept the Master's unique erotic collection of drawings for the third, unfinished part of the film. They have never been published anywhere until now. The name of the film is based on the story of the sign, which appeared before John the Apostle. In his interpretation, the woman personifies the sublime essence of feminine beauty. The beast is Satan's dutiful instrument called down to create Great Acts, and to deceive the living. "Encore, Once More Encore" (Series, 10 Episodes) - was the first successful production from Mirabel Studio. It received a "Nike" Prize from the Russian Academy of Motion Picture Art for the best fiction picture in 1992; for the best screenplay at The International Film Festival in Tokyo in 1993; this picture was awarded a Prize at The Russian Film Festival "Constellation-93"; the Grand Prize at the open "Kinotavr" at Sochy (1993). In "Life Is Full of Games" (Series, 10 Episodes), the scene is set at the end of the 20-th century, in a provincial town not far from Moscow. Several families live here in one big communal flat. Every family has its own anxieties, interests, misfortunes and joys. The communal is not only social environment; it is a certain section from society. All the members of this communal "hostel" are quite different: intellectual Vera and narrow-minded Larisa, old pensioners living the rest of their days, and an invalid Lira dreaming of happy life in distant Australia, heartless clerk Bozhok, and young researcher Viktor, forced to earn additionally as a tutor. "Love in Three" (Series, 10 episodes) was created by Petr Todorovsky from his passion for women. The principal character of his new film is again, a woman. Strong and modern, she herself decides her own fate. No, she is not a businesswoman. She is tender, delicate and elegant. She is attracted by the past; she enjoys lace, hats, and she takes retro pictures not for money, but for herself, and talks with her models about love. However, when a serious problem appears and she faces the most important decision of her life, she becomes as hard as rock... "The Mark Shagal's Theatre" (1 X 274') is a story of creation, disappearance and joyful discovery of the famous painter Mark Chagall's seven theatrical pictures (1887-1985): November of 1920. The Jewish Chamber Theater is preparing an opening in Moscow. It will take place in a 3-floor tenement and use on the Great Chernyshevsky side street (this house has been maintained as well as a sitting room where the auditorium was). Invited by A.Efros, Mark Chagall, within 40 days, not only created the scenery and costumes for three Sholom Aleichem's miniatures, which the theater was opened with, but also painted the walls and ceiling of the auditorium. This small theatrical auditorium that consists of seating for 90, has obtained the name "Channel's Box". "What A Wonderful Game" (Series, 10 episodes) focuses on the beginning of the 1950's. Four student friends live in a country students' hostel of The College of Art. Although they are often hungry but cheerful: playing jokes and pranks on one another, and on the many other inhabitants of the hostel, they are certainly, falling in love. In a word, their life is in full swing with passions and jokes, typical of daily life, as well as the customs of the starving students' Bohemia in those post-war years. And what a wonderful game it was when a brilliant idea came into their heads, and this was of using their practical jokes to imitate a radio show, and Rybrin's talent to remarkably imitate the voice of the well-known announcer. Indeed that was the most clever and exciting game that they ever had! However, they had forgotten about the horrible times they were living in..... The whole company was tracked down by the KGB. |
