Dori Media Launches The First Ever Interactive Telenovelas Language Course

Dori Media Group launched "Viva El Espanol", a Spanish language course based on an interactive video drama. The "Viva El Espanol" language course is made up of 250 lessons, each lasting 10 minutes. The program begins with a 4-5 minute episode of a specially produced and very entertaining mini telenovelas that introduces words, terms and conjugation that will be taught in a Spanish language lesson that follows the episode. 5 episodes a week of "Viva El Espanol" are broadcasted for a period of 50 weeks and each week is dedicated to a different subject. The script used to produce the program can be tailored to any other language and lessons are adaptable so the format can be replicated for other platforms and other markets.
The course includes an interactive layer allowing users to exercise according to their speed and ability. The system responds to exercises by not allowing users to pass to the next level until a correct answer has been given. The interactive layer also includes: a unique speaking dictionary that teaches users the right pronunciation of words and terms; a written dictionary of all the words taught during the course; a library of all exercises; word games offering a daily prize-bearing quiz as well as grammatical material to assist the students in their exercises. Viewers who have no interactive service, or who prefer to practice away from the television, are provided with a monthly exercise booklet.
The advent of VOD means the system can be adapted to a database structure, which offers drama, lessons and exercises at the leisure of the user. In Israel, a total of 40,000 students have subscribed to the interactive service at a charge of US$1.5 per month. The Cervantes Institute, the authority on Spanish language courses, has prepared lessons and at the end of the course students will receive certificates enabling them to continue their language lessons at the institute.
