What are your acquisition strategies?
The main activity of the company concerning foreign programs is the distribution in the Czech and Slovak Republics of high quality and unique documentary programs, both specials and series, which are supposed to be competitive with other distributors and strong TV channels as well. We are always looking for interesting top titles to be attractive for viewers in the same way as the best books are, i.e. programs the viewers want to spend their money for to keep them on DVD at home.
What products are you looking for?
We are mostly interested in the programs which do not lose their attractive look even after years, are full of necessary visual and verbal information and covering respective theme from A to Z. We prefer history, art, science, sport, military, and lifestyle. Country of origin is not important at all.
Besides documentary programs, we are from time to time, also acquiring the rights for interesting animations for small children, mostly specials, and sometimes series.
What were your key acquisition deals in 2007?
We did not do much on international market last year; we were more focused on other activities, mostly dealing with domestic production. Concerning foreign programs, we have especially made first steps towards new strategy with regard to internet rights. Many negotiations have been made to make us ready to go further in the year 2008.
What are your plans for MIPTV?
The distribution needs are still under development and the domestic situation is taking us to another field of activity. Since last year, we are very much considering the possibilities of internet rights. Now, we are looking for distributing companies and producers abroad, who are open to providing the rights for documentaries and educational programs to be available for streaming on the web.
