Viewpoints: acquisitions strategies
Dimitrios Koliodimos
General Manager
SKAI TV
Greece
What are your acquisition strategies?
We attend various international TV markets and festivals. We collaborate with the main big doc production companies, like BBC, National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet, Granada etc, as well as the smaller ones looking for programming considered alternative compared to the rest of the Greek TV landscape. Our goal is to make a difference without alienating the Greek viewer.
What products are you looking for?
We are looking for programs that combine entertainment with knowledge as well as productions that promote all aspects of political and social life. The core of our program consists of documentaries and factual entertainment focusing on wildlife, science, history and quality lifestyle programs. We also like to enrich our programming with fiction series that we qualify as "unique". Since its first day on the air, SKAI has been promoting a "green" agenda and this is why ecological programs are always of great interest to us. We don't buy formats or children's programming. We deal with European and US companies and we prefer programs in English.
What were your key acquisition deals in 2007?
Seconds before "Disaster", "Mega structures", "Top Gear", "Earth: Power of the Planet", "Our Charlie", "CSI NY" and "CSI Miami", "24", "Rome", "Dr Who", "Mythbusters", "The Oprah Winfrey Show", "True Hollywood Stories", etc.
