What are your acquisition strategies?
We are continually "thinking outside the square" when it comes to acquisitions for both Ovation and DV1. We aspire to build an eclectic mix of the new and upbeat with a good dose of popular classics. The strategy is to cast the net wide, give all distributors a fair go and listen to advice and opinions from viewers and customers. So whilst we do continually acquire from trusted sources, we are also actively seeking out programming from new and varied places.

Romeo et Juliette - Metropolitan Opera
What products are you looking for? From which countries are you interested in buying products? IE incorporates both Ovation the Arts Channel and DVD distributor DV1. In buying for Ovation Channel we look for arts-based, inspirational programs in a number of genres to suit our 40+ demographic. We find that inspirational music both classical and crossover most entertains and inspires our demographic. We look for programming that will fit well on the Ovation Channel and be suitable for DVD release on the Ovation brand label. We are also looking for high-quality titles in a range of genres for DV1 but concentrating largely on up-to-the-minute, controversial documentaries on issues of the day. We buy from all the major English-speaking countries but are certainly not limited to them.
What are your key deals in 2008?
Key deals in 2008 include a deal with the Metropolitan Opera in which we acquired all the operas from their 06/07, 07/08 and 08/09 seasons. Others are the Canadian series "Slings & Arrows", "The Schonbrunn Concerts" for Europe, "The Helmut Lotti Goes Classic" concerts, "Crusty's Dirt Demons" and a deal with Arte France for its series on architecture, painting and photography.
