Breast Cancer Video Diary
Berlin based Georgetown Media presents the documentary "Kathrin's Video Diary" (working title; promo) at MIPDOC.
At the age of 32, Kathrin was diagnosed with a highly aggressive type of breast cancer. The doctors told her she needed a mastectomy followed by an intensive course of chemotherapy.
Over the next nine months, Kathrin confided her thoughts and feelings in a video diary. She had no idea if anyone would ever see the footage, but felt she wanted to be able to express herself uncensored, so as not to overburden her friends and family. She confronted not only losing her right breast and the rigors of chemotherapy, but also thoughts such as: Will I ever feel like a whole woman again? Will anyone ever want to touch me again? Will I still be able to have children?
Sensitively edited by her oldest friend, filmmaker Nicholas Feustel, this film follows Kathrin on a journey that one-in-eight women will likely take in their lifetime. Not simply a film about breast cancer, ultimately "Kathrin's Video Diary" celebrates the resilience of the human spirit.
(In post-production; will be completed in summer 2009.)
