Viewpoints: acquisitions strategies

Adalat Aliyev
President
Lider Media Holding LTD
Azerbaijan
What are your acquisition strategies for 2009?
Lider TV, one of the largest TV studios in Azerbaijan, taking into consideration the audience share, Lider TV occupies its own special place among local stations as a "general interest" TV station. In our opinion, the best strategy is purchasing the proper content, consisting of programs and shows that meets the interests of a wide audience. We cover all of Azerbaijan, and other neighboring republics, not only Baku, so our audience is not limited like some other local stations. Our audience consists not only of representatives of our Diaspora. We are proud to emphasize that our news and analytical programs cover information about current situations and events that have occurred all over the Caucasian region.
What genres are you looking for?
We constantly monitor every change that causes an increase or decrease in our viewers ' interest towards different products broadcasted on our channels. Our goal is always to purchase the highest quality content, not only for prime time, but also for all of our broadcasting.
By "quality content", we mean the following: entertainment shows (talk shows, comedies, quiz shows, culinary/cooking shows, fashion shows and concerts); Sports programs. We would like to emphasize our cooperation with EBU, SportFive, RAI, Infront Sport&Media, etc.; Fiction movies and films (soap operas, serials, movies and documentaries, candid camera, etc.)
What programming licensing rights are you interested in?
Lider's data shows that our biggest audience share consists of middle-aged viewers. So, we are interested in purchasing rights for products that will increase our ratings among other segments of TV viewers. We hope these products will attract the attention of a wide range of viewers and meet their requirements within the framework of our motto; which has not changed since 2000 when our station was launched, "We are always with you".
What products will be in demand during MIPTV 2009? Please give us your opinion.
I suppose that in 2009, the programs for the new digital platforms and VOD (Video-on-demand), PPV (Pay- for- view), Internet based programs; DVD, IPTV and interactive programs with cellular phone communication will be on demand and will have high ratings. So, every buyer will search for content suitable for their viewers' audience. |
