Blue August Creations
United Kingdom
What are your acquisition strategies in 2009?
Blue August Creations is an independent production company that has focused primarily on producing TV for broadcast. However, in the last 12 months we have extended our activities to include the acquisition of content for our own productions and on behalf of other production companies and TV channels.
Currently we are in the process of developing our website and are now looking at acquiring content that will appeal to our online community. We have an existing fan base as a result of our shows; one in particular has a huge following and is extremely popular amongst the clubbing scene in the UK. We are keen to build on this by providing our audience with content that will compliment ours and is line with our demographic of which we have a sound understanding. Therefore, our strategy for acquiring content will revolve around our website.
What genres are you looking for?
Mainly genres, such as light entertainment, adult animation and content that appeals to both a male and female audience. Our own content has been primarily male-skewed entertainment but this will not strictly apply for content we want for our website. More importantly, we want a variety of content that is funny, unusual and quirky and would not necessarily be considered by mainstream broadcasters but has the right appeal for our online community.
What rights are you looking for?
VOD rights and relevant web based rights are of interest to us but obviously this would be something to be negotiated with the content provider and would be discussed accordingly depending on where, when and how the content would be viewed. We will also be looking at rights specific to certain territories.
What products will be on demand on MIPTV 2009?
Given the current economic climate and the difficulties that organizations and industries are facing, I think that there will definitely be a cut back on drama as budgets are tight. Therefore I think we will see an increase in light entertainment and reality formats. I also think that factual entertainment will be very popular. |
