Germany What are your acquisition strategies for 2009?
RTL is always interested in big blockbusters and successful US series, which fit in our program. Besides, we are into event-documentaries and documentary series for weekend afternoons. Moreover, we are looking for specific Pay-TV content to broadcast on our pay channels.
What genres are you looking for?
We are interested in nearly every genre. However, programs especially targeted to a specific audience, e.g. kids, are not our main emphasis because we show programs for the whole family. Besides series about forensic like "C.S.I." or "Bones", curious characters like "House, MD" or "Monk" are very popular in Germany. For RTL we principally buy series and big blockbusters from the US. For our three Pay-TV-channels we also acquire shows like "Durham County" from Canada or documentaries like "Michael Palin: New Europe" from Great Britain.
What rights are you looking for?
Free and basic cable rights on all transmission ways (on demand & linear)
What products will be in demand during MIP TV 2009?
Probably more non-fiction than fiction and high quality US first run fiction series, which are, however, not often offered at MIP TV.
