TVP Historia
Poland
What are your acquisition strategies for 2009?
TVP Historia, as a part of the Polish Public Television, is a new thematic channel and is still new on the television market. When TVP Historia was launched in May 2007, most of our programs were based on our rich archives, and were documentaries on Polish history in the 20 th century. But, since then, we varied our offer and opened to new audiences. Now we are looking for programs, which present stories from different parts of the world. We would like to show to polish viewers the stories of people and nations from different cultures, ages and with different backgrounds. TVP Historia is also searching for programs, which are on local stories, but are know or could be related internationally.
What genres are you looking for?
Documentary movies are our main interest. We are looking for programs on the military, travel, arts, biographies, religion, lifestyle and culture - all in relation to history from ancient times to the 20th century. If we find some interesting titles, we concern the purchase of drama movies, which are related to history or are presenting touching stories from the past.
What rights are you looking for?
TVP Historia is free-to-air satellite channel, we are also in few major cable networks in Poland, and so we need exclusive rights for satellite and cable broadcasting. Of course, exclusive titles availability is important to us. The rest is a matter of negotiation.
What products will be in demand during MIPTV 2009?
As the financial crisis is growing, all companies and broadcasters do major budget cuttings and buyers will make their decisions with more concern. I suppose it will cause producers and distributors flexibility regarding prices and general offers. According to audience telemetries, interest in the local stories, from one's own region and country is the general trend, and it should be noticed by producers. And, there is always great interest in touching, mysterious, true stories presented in attractive ways. The other trend is that digital technologies availability is rapidly increasing, and in 2009, we will see more productions in HD than in previous years.
