What are your acquisition strategies?
Being a large commercially based company, we are looking for mainstream, popular film and series that will cut through with a mass audience - particularly for ITV1 and ITV2. ITV3 and ITV4 are a little more targeted - towards the female, middle-market and young, male audiences, respectively.
What products are you looking for?
On the film side, we generally look for movies that either have had a theatrical release, or have an obvious hook for the audience - such as a known cast. On the series side, we are looking for the best shows in the English-speaking market that fit the demographics of the various channels in our portfolio.
Can you name the most successful titles that you acquired this year?
Big, event movies such as the Harry Potter franchise, combined with cherry-picked library titles with enduring appeal and smart series with a unique point of view such as Vampire Diaries, Life and Dexter.
What products will be in demand during MIPCOM 2009?
Product that can hold its own as a traditional TV offering - good scripts, strong narratives, well-known cast/presenters etc - but also can expand out into online and other new media platforms.
