Stephen Janson
President
Janson Media
United States
Can you tell us about the most important changes in your company's activities in 2009?
This year we introduced the Janson Media Consultancy, designed to help independent producers and content creators who are struggling to survive and prosper in an increasingly complex media environment. Our team is available to help guide producers through a variety of rights and financing issues relating to both production and distribution. We can help clarify the complexities involved in working with PBS. We can provide a better understanding of the "rights language" of the new media landscape. We know the pulse of the international marketplace, the home video/DVD marketplace, the non-theatrical/in-flight marketplace, the educational marketplace, the new media marketplace (VOD, IPTV, web, mobile), and the overall environment for production, co-production, and sales. Our services include underwriting, PBS syndication and station relations, and content sourcing.
What are your sales strategies this autumn?
We are looking to build the volume of our deals, in other words, the number of hours included in each license agreement. We are also looking to establish content sourcing relationships with new Russian, Eastern European and SE Asian channels looking for content from America.
What are the most important countries for your sales?
We are still finding a great deal of activity in Russia and the Eastern European markets, as well as Southeast Asia and Korea.
What new titles will you offer at MIPCOM?
"Travel with kids: Season 3" (Travel Series), "Heavy Metal: The Evolution of the Naval Warship" (History Series), "Last Flight to Berlin" (History Special), "Warriors of the Night" (History Series), "Halifax at War" (History Special), "Independent Intervention: Breaking Silence" (Current Affairs Special), "Jesus Diaries: Every Day Life in the Time of Messiah" (History, Religion Special), "Richard Bangs' Adventures with Purpose: Assam India: Quest for the One-Horned Rhinoceros" (Travel, Adventure Special), "Barbecue America, the World Tour" (Cooking Series), "MoneyTrack: Season 3" (Finance, Investing Series), "Chefs A'Field: Green Cuisine" (Cooking Series), "Giant Screen Films Collection: Vikings: Journey To New Worlds" (Docudrama, History Special), "Great Decisions 2009" (Current Affairs Series).
